Lakefront Kiosk

Proposal for Chicago Architecture Biennial's Lakefront Kiosk competition.

Chicago’s lakefront is a long, beautiful line where the city dissolves to meet its natural edge. Buildings make way to a panoramic stretch. The kiosk captures a segment of this unbroken line, bringing a cinematic experience to a familiar lakefront view.

The kiosk’s white perspectival fins frame a natural view of the lake. Partially inspired by the works of James Turrell, whose Skyspace installations transform the surface of the sky into an art object, the kiosk brings the audience’s full attention to what is in front of them and lets the natural beauty of the sky and the water take over their senses. In this natural theatre, visitors can watch the image of the lake change with the seasons.
